The Thunderbird Nest

Outside atop a high place in nature, on a hill or on a mountain, holy people known as "thunderbirds" (shamans) once built and regularly used a sacred medicinal site called a “thunderbird nest”. Made of stones, a thunderbird nest is seen to be a real “place of power” upon the earth. It is still used for spiritual practices and ceremonies where people can gain insight and vision, find purpose and meaning and therefore attain healing to help them personally upon the path of life.

The thunderbird nest is still considered a place of power. This earthly power is positive (+) in nature. At the nest is where we can consciously find "inspiration" to focus on "personal  power”; the energetic power both exterior to people and the power interior to people. The nest is believed to be a place where exterior power - from beyond us - comes directly to us to become interior power; the personal power inside us – the power of our very spirit. Keep in mind this is what people believe. And of course having strong, positive personal beliefs rooted in our earthly reality is very good medicine for as human beings.

Positive (+) power exterior to us is the natural energy source that can "re-charge" the real power that exists interior to us.  This positive power resides inside the vital core of our being, our very spirit. But when we feel emotional, low, down, or weak it’s often because our personal power, our spirit, has been drained. In essence our spirit - our inner energy or power - has been depleted. So when we can face and accept the reality that our spirit feels drained, it's then we can best take action.

We intentionally go back outside to the land, to the direct “power source” of the thunderbird nest, to replenish our personal energy, power and spirit. Positive (+) power, like addition, accumulates. We grow. We become more inspired, more creative and thus more empowered as human beings in a positive and good way.  Returning to the thunderbird nest and its natural source of positive power is an act of natural "re-creation". Here we re-create and replenish our energy anew. Like an electric battery, it's at the nest we recharge the vital, interior, source power - the spirit - of our own being. We revitalize our natural human spirit. As a positive result by helping ourselves to be our positive best we attain personal well-being. It's when we are at our best and well that we are best able help others to be well too.

Going to a stone thunderbird nest for personal, spiritual use is done to recharge our power; our natural energy, our inner electricity and human spirit. The nest is a "place of power" where we can consciously connect with the real, physical, earthly energetic powers of nature, the helpful spirits of the Four Directions, ancestor thunderbird spirits and of course from the Thunderbird too. Inside the nest is where all this positive power becomes focused. As a result, the belief is that positive energy comes naturally from all directions exterior to us and is then concentrated as "good medicine" within our critical centre, our essential core, and merges with our human spirit. We leave the nest "re-charged" of positive energy, "re-created" and full of renewed personal spiritual power to consciously and creatively employ upon our path in life within our human world.

Once we realize we have this great, natural, positive spiritual power inside us, we can intentionally use the "good medicine" of our spiritual power in an “inward” way to help ourselves find vision and purpose in life. We can also use this great power to help us grow, heal, find balance, well being and inner peace. The result is we become "empowered" as human beings. And then we can use our great inner power directly in an “outward” way beyond us to help others upon their path in life too.
