The Thunderbirds

Kwey, kwey! I am a Métis-Algonquin person and a descendant of the Kitchizibi. Kitchizibi means, "Great River" which today is known as the Ottawa River. My ancestors lived on the Kitchizibi  near the old medicine place of Oiseau/Bird Rock (above) which in Algonquin is called "Pinesi-Asin" meaning Thunderbird Rock.

This sacred rock is traditionally known as a "thunderbird nest". It is a place of power because thunderbirds (shamans) journey here still to seek vision and practice thunderbird medicine work. Christianity nearly eliminated our ancient thunderbird practices. Today's thunderbirds are committed to enlighten and empower people so we teach others about our "good medicine" practices.

As a thunderbird my role is to help people learn the power of our wisdom. It's rewarding to share the traditional knowledge, teachings and medicine practices I've learned to utilize in life.

Thunderbird people are taught to share their "feathers". These feathers take the form of traditional knowledge, medicine ways and teachings. As such, "Thunderbird Feathers" are intended to inspire, enlighten and empower others to see the importance of using their spirit to help create their own life reality and world.

Bird Mountain in Ontario's Madawaska Highlands is a special place where I bring people to learn about thunderbird medicine, the vision quest and the nature of bird shamanism. Thunderbird teachings and ways of knowing will help you realize wonderful things upon your learning journey into Algonquin Knowledge.
